Professor Terence Madhujith, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya, said that the University of Peradeniya has suffered a loss of about 300 million rupees due to the flooding caused by the overflowing of the Mahaweli River.
He stated that the flood caused by the overflowing of the Mahaweli River has destroyed valuable property worth crores of rupees, including computer and electronic equipment, computer research data equipment, and valuable furniture at the University of Peradeniya.
The Vice-Chancellor also stated that about 60 million rupees worth of computer equipment in the university’s computer center has been destroyed, and electrical equipment and large plastic water tanks in the sports equipment maintenance unit have been swept away by the flood.
