The World Health Organization and UNICEF have warned that millions of children around the world are at risk without vaccination due to cuts in international aid by wealthy countries led by the United States and the rapid spread of vaccine myths.
According to UN reports, global vaccination prevents between 3.5 and 5 million deaths annually.
However, the UN says that under the new circumstances, 14 million children worldwide will not be able to receive any vaccinations by 2024.
This situation is not only seen in Asia and Africa but also in Europe.
This situation has contributed to a threefold increase in the number of children infected with whooping cough in Europe to 300,000 in 2024.
The number of measles cases in Europe is also expected to double to 125,000 by 2024.
Half of the world’s unvaccinated children in 2024 will be in nine countries: Nigeria, India, Sudan, Congo, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Yemen, Afghanistan and Angola.
However, the United States, which had completely eliminated measles 25 years ago, still reported 1,288 cases of measles in 2025.
