A fire broke out on the main island of the Castlereagh Reservoir on the afternoon of (04).
It is believed that a group of people who went to see the island may have set it on fire as the water level in the reservoir has dropped rapidly and the island is easily accessible.
Fishermen in the Castlereagh Reservoir say that a large number of birds native to the Castlereagh Reservoir catchment area have nested on the island and that no one has come forward to control the spreading fire.
