Last July, expatriate workers sent 566.8 million US dollars to this country legally through the banking system.
When compared with the month of July last year, the amount of shipments sent to this country in July this year has increased by 10.3 percent.
From the day Minister Manusha Nanayakkara assumed office as the Minister of Labor and Foreign Employment until he left the ministry, the amount of money sent by expatriate workers is 12.5 billion US dollars.
He requested that 500 million dollars per month be given to the country through the legal system to eliminate oil queues, gas queues, milk powder queues and to import the essential goods needed by the country, and it had good response from the expatriate workers. Since March last year, the amount of remittances sent by expatriate workers has exceeded the 500 million dollar limit and has been able to exceed the 500 million dollar limit continuously for the past six months.
The Ministry of Labor and Foreign Employment had also worked to provide various incentives including providing electric vehicle import licenses, providing multi-purpose loans at low interest, and housing loan schemes for workers who send money to the country through the legal system.
