Electricity bill to rise soon . .

Due to the current dry weather conditions, the Ceylon Electricity Board has decided to increase electricity generation from fuel and thermal power plants until mid-May. Hydropower production will be minimized accordingly and the reason for this is the increased need for water for cultivation.

Accordingly, the board also warns that the consumer will have to pay the cost of obtaining electricity from thermal power plants.

Ceylon Electricity Board says that rainfall was low in the months of February and March, and that hydropower production has been increased these days with the permission of the Irrigation Department and the Mahaweli Authority, but it is not possible to continue doing so.

He said that the establishment of natural gas power plants in the country has been delayed by 10 years and that there is still no situation in the country to start a natural gas power plant project, and that the cost of oil power plants can be reduced by 50 percent by establishing natural gas power plants.
