The inefficiency of the Drug Regulatory Authority and the unnecessary pressure placed on junior officers and specialist doctors have prevented more companies from competing for tenders, said Specialist Dr. Chamal Sanjeewa, Chairman of the Doctors’ Trade Union Alliance on Civil Rights.
Although the heads of institutions have stated that the drug shortage will be eliminated by the beginning of next year, he pointed out that the Ministry of Health will fail to completely control the drug shortage under the current situation.
He further stated that since certain tender transactions carried out by the State Pharmaceuticals Corporation over the past year are questionable, and since there are reports of cases where supplies were provided at high prices to certain companies and individual suppliers with high prices in those transactions, he will file a complaint with the Bribery and Corruption Investigation Commission and initiate an investigation into the current governing authority of the State Pharmaceuticals Corporation.
