Drones for passenger transport .

As part of an effort to expand air travel facilities in Sri Lanka, the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka is planning to launch a pilot project to introduce passenger transport drones to the country, its Director General Daminda Rambukwella said.

Speaking further, he said that the Civil Aviation Authority has already taken steps to implement this pilot project to evaluate the practical feasibility of operating passenger drones in Sri Lanka.

Such passenger drone services are already operating in countries such as China, Singapore and Thailand, and Sri Lanka hopes to evaluate its success through the pilot project before introducing this technology widely in the country.

The project will focus on evaluating operational, regulatory and safety aspects to ensure that the services meet the required aviation standards before implementing this on a large scale. The drone has the capacity to carry up to six (06) passengers.
