Ceylon workers Congress had organized a series of protests in Kotagala and Bhagavanthalawa on (07) against the leader of the Tamil Progressive Alliance, Colombo District MP Mano Ganesan.
The Ceylon workers Congress had organized this series of protests in protest against an alleged statement made by Mr. Mano Ganesan regarding the interim injunction granted by the Supreme Court last (04) temporarily suspending the gazette issued by the Ministry of Labour to increase the daily wages of plantation workers to Rs 1700. .
The supporters of the Ceylon workers Congress, who were engaged in the agitation, said that the Secretary General of the Ceylon workers Congress, Minister Jeevan Thondaman, had consulted with the President and the Ministry of Labor had issued a gazette to increase the daily wages of plantation workers to Rs 1700. The plantation companies challenged the gazette in the Supreme Court. A petition has been filed and an interim order has been obtained against the said gazette.
The agitators claimed that MP Mano Ganesan had made such a statement through the media protesting against the increase in the wages of plantation workers.
The members of Ceylon workers Congress who participated in the protest said that no one should allow plantation workers to play politics and that if MP Mano Ganesan comes to the plantation, the people of the plantation are ready to teach him a good lesson.
