A special discussion was held yesterday (28) with the participation of defense chiefs with the aim of reviewing the progress in returning private lands located in the Jaffna-Palali High Security Zone to their original owners and finding solutions to the challenges related to it.
Issuing a statement in this regard, the Ministry of Defense said that the discussion was held in Colombo under the patronage of the Deputy Minister of Defense, Major General (Retd) Aruna Jayasekara.
It is reported that Defense Secretary Air Vice Marshal (Retd) Sampath Thuiyakontha and a group of senior defense and administrative officers participated in this.
The focus was on resolving the problems that have arisen in the implementation of the land restitution program. The phased withdrawal of military units to expedite the handover of private lands still in military custody to their respective owners has also been brought to the fore.
