The Disaster Management Center says that the number of disaster deaths due to the prevailing disaster situation has increased to 607. According to the latest statement issued this afternoon (05), 214 people are missing.
2,082,195 people belonging to 586,464 families have been affected by the bad weather.
According to the report issued by the Disaster Management Center, the highest number of deaths, 232, has been reported from the Kandy District.
Meanwhile, 89 deaths have been reported from the Nuwara Eliya District, 83 deaths from the Badulla District, 61 deaths from Kurunegala, 60 deaths from the Kegalle and Puttalam Districts and 28 deaths from the Matale District.
Meanwhile, 81 people from the Kandy District, 35 people from Nuwara Eliya, 41 people from the Kegalle District, 28 people from Badulla and 11 people from Kurunegala are still missing due to the disaster.
The statement also states that 152,537 people from 43,715 families are still staying in shelters.
