Deputy Minister Namal Allays Farmers’ Fears.

Namal Karunaratne, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, stated that measures have been taken to provide a range of relief to the farming community and that there is no need for undue concern regarding the supply of fertilizer. The Deputy Minister highlighted that several programs are currently underway, including fertilizer subsidies for coconut cultivation, the distribution of coconut seedlings, and subsidies to support the establishment of new coconut plantations. Commenting on the supply of fertilizer, he further stated that there is no cause for concern regarding the availability of TSP (Triple Super Phosphate), MOP (Muriate of Potash), and Urea required for paddy cultivation.

The Deputy Minister noted that the application of fertilizer for paddy cultivation is currently not an issue, adding that three shipments of fertilizer are en route to meet the requirements for all types of cultivation.
