The Ministry has denied reports that Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs Eranga Gunasekara has been named as a suspect in the arson incident at former President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s private house.
Commenting on this, a spokesperson for the Deputy Minister said that Deputy Minister Eranga Gunasekara has not identified Gunasekara as a suspect and that no warrant has been issued in connection with the incident on July 9, 2022.
“When contacted, the Kollupitiya Police Station, which handled the case, confirmed that no such warrant had been issued. The claim that the fire brigade was obstructed is completely false,” the spokesperson said.
He said that the report that Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs Eranga Gunasekara has been named as a suspect in the attack on former President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s private residence on Fifth Lane in Kollupitiya on July 9, 2022 and the incident of obstructing the fire brigade that came to put out the fire is therefore false.
