The government has decided to accept medical degrees offered by recognized international universities as recognized medical degrees in Sri Lanka. Cabinet approval has been given for this.
It has also been approved to appoint a committee to prepare a national policy that includes standards and criteria based on the recognition of medical degrees offered by international universities.
It has also been asked to amend the provisions of the Medical Ordinance Act to suit the current conditions and to submit suitable recommendations. Medical degrees awarded by foreign universities from world ranking number 01 to 1000 are recognized in Sri Lanka.
