Former Prasident J.R.Jayawardena knew long ago that Sri Lanka will be ruled by a group of madmen in the future. Former Member of Parliament Dayasiri Jayasekara says this while addressing a public meeting held for the general elections.
He pointed out that is the reson to added Article 36-02 when the 1978 Constitution was drafted, and according to that Article, laws cannot be brought retroactively to reduce or abolish the privileges of former Presidents.
He further said that the salaries of former presidents can be increased but it is not possible to reduce the salaries according to that clause.
But if necessary, he added that the current president can withdraw his privileges by bringing a bill.
