The Anuradhapura Chief Magistrate has rejected the request made by the suspect former army soldier to make a statement again regarding the incident of raping a doctor at the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital.
When the relevant case was taken up, the suspect’s request was rejected by Anuradhapura Chief Magistrate Nalaka Sanjeewa Jayasuriya.
Responding at that time, Sub-Inspector of the Children and Women’s Bureau of the Anuradhapura Police A. C. Dayananda said that the suspect is systematically trying to use the court to make various false statements with the aim of insulting the victim doctor and embarrassing her.
The Sub-Inspector also said that the suspect is making a deliberate attempt to embarrass the victim doctor by making such false statements and getting publicity about it through the media.
The Sub-Inspector also said that the suspect had previously made a completely false statement in open court that he did not rape the doctor by force.
The Magistrate rejected the suspect’s request.
