Court order prevents arrest of lawyer in Halloluwa shooting incident

The Court of Appeal has issued an interim injunction to the Colombo Crimes Division preventing the arrest of a lawyer on suspicion in connection with the investigations being conducted into the shooting at the vehicle of former National Lottery Board Director Thusitha Halloluwa.

The order was issued by a bench of judges comprising the Chairman of the Court of Appeal, Justice Rohantha Abeysuriya and Priyantha Fernando, after considering a petition submitted.

President’s Counsel Saliya Peiris, who appeared for the petitioner, stated before the court that there was not sufficient evidence to arrest his client.

Saliya Peiris has pointed out that he had only provided professional services to Thusitha Halloluwa as a lawyer and that he was not involved in any criminal activity.

Accordingly, the Court of Appeal panel, having considered the facts presented, issued this interim injunction to be in effect for a period of 14 days.
