An interim order has been issued preventing the arrest of Tiran Alles, the Managing Director of Ceylon Newspapers (Pvt) Ltd and a former Minister. This order has been issued in connection with a complaint regarding the dishonoring of cheques allegedly issued by Ceylon Newspapers the company that publishes the Mawbima and Ceylon Today newspapers for the procurement of paper.
Employees of Ceylon Newspapers including journalists working for the Mawbima and Ceylon Today newspapers, which are owned by former Minister of Public Security Tiran Alles are facing severe hardship due to the non-payment of salaries for several months and the failure to remit Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) contributions for years.
