Court of Appeal orders Hirunika’s appeal.

The Attorney General has been granted permission by the Court of Appeal to broadcast the CCTV footage of the abduction of a young man during the hearing of the appeal filed by former Parliamentarian Hirunika Premachandra, who has been sentenced to three years in prison in connection with an incident involving the abduction of a young man.

Deputy Solicitor General Janaka Susantha Bandara requested the court to allow the relevant CCTV footage to be played in court. Accordingly, the Court Registrar was ordered to provide the necessary technical facilities to play the recordings on the next hearing, which is September 23.

Hirunika Premachandra was convicted by the Colombo High Court on charges of abducting, assaulting and detaining a young man in the Dematagoda area in 2015.

This permission was granted when the petition was taken up before Court of Appeal Judges P. Kumararatnam and Pradeep Hettiarachchi. President’s Counsel Shavindra Fernando appeared for Hirunika Premachandra.
