The Railway Station Masters’ Union states that the token strike initiated by railway trade unions—centered on several demands, including the removal of the General Manager of Railways—is continuing today.
Its President, Sumedha Somaratne, stated that the industrial action, which began yesterday, will remain in effect until midnight tonight. He stated that this industrial action was taken because, despite raising concerns about inefficiencies within the Railway Department on numerous occasions, no adequate response had been received.
However, Railway Operations Superintendent Asanka Samarasinghe stated that arrangements have been made to operate trains normally today, despite the trade union strike.
Accordingly, he noted that all office trains are scheduled to run this morning and evening.
