Circulars related to the admission of students are cancelled.

The Cabinet has approved the issuance of a new circular for the admission of students from Grade 2 to Grade 11, excluding Grades 5 and 6, in schools. It is essential to maintain the number of students in a classroom within the approved limits in order to implement the proposed new education reforms.

Therefore, it has been identified that it is appropriate to introduce a proper methodology to provide the opportunity to admit students to intermediate grades in schools, excluding Grades 5 and 6, while ensuring the right of all children in the country to education.

Considering these facts, it has been planned to issue new circular instructions to provide the opportunity to apply for schools so that priority is given to students who genuinely need to be admitted to another school from the school they are currently studying in for various reasons.

Accordingly, taking into account the recommendations submitted by the Sub-Committee appointed by the Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education, the circular instructions issued so far regarding the admission of students from Grade 2 to Grade 11, excluding Grades 5 and 6, in schools are hereby revoked.

The proposal submitted by Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, in her capacity as the Minister of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education, to issue new circular instructions for this purpose has been approved by the Cabinet.
