CID cancels summons to former Presidential Secretary Saman Ekanayake .

Former Presidential Secretary Saman Ekanayake has been cancelled from appearing before the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) today. Accordingly, the CID has informed him that he is not required to appear today.

The summons was issued to give a statement regarding former President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s visit to the United Kingdom and allegations that he misused state funds for the visit.

Former Secretary Saman Ekanayake is reportedly set to present further evidence to answer the allegation that the invitation sent to the former President by the University of Wolverhampton was ‘fake’.

In response to an email sent to the University of Wolverhampton by Mr. Wickremesinghe’s lawyer, the university has confirmed the authenticity of the invitation sent by the former President to the CID. These documents are to be submitted to the Criminal Investigation Department.
