Chamara Sampath says Minister Ananda Wijepala is a terrorist

Current Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Ananda Wijepala joined the Police Department as a trainee officer in 1988 but was later dismissed as an ‘armed wing leader’ or a ‘terrorist’, SLPP MP Chamara Sampath Dassanayake said in Parliament today.

He made these comments in response to a comment made by Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Ananda Wijepala during a parliamentary session held today (23).

Minister Wijepala said that Sri Lanka had become a land of criminals from the beginning and that previous governments had fostered those conditions. He said that the appointment of Gonawala Sunil as a Justice of the Peace for the entire island on the recommendation of Ranil Wickremesinghe was an example of this. He also said that Julampitiye Amare had 110 court warrants but no one arrested him.

Speaking at the event, New Democratic Front MP Chamara Sampath Dassanayake said that if he were to tell the past stories, he could also tell a lot. He further commented as follows:

“If we talk about the day you went down, we can also talk about you. You joined the police department in 1988 as a trained SI. But you were dismissed from the police based on intelligence reports and CID reports. You were dismissed from the police because you were a leader of the armed wing or a terrorist. We know your life story….”
