Chamara Sampath opposes the abolition of the presidential titles alone.

The second reading debate on the bill to abolish the rights of the Presidents was held in Parliament today (10).

There were 151 votes in favor of the bill and 01 vote against. Chamara Sampath Dissanayake, representing the opposition, cast his vote against the bill.

Accordingly, Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne informed the Parliament that the Bill to abolish the rights of the Presidents was passed by a majority of 150 votes.

After the passage of this new Act, the office allowances, secretarial allowances and official housing allowances of retired Presidents and their widows will be abolished. However, the pensions and security of the Presidents as guaranteed by the Constitution will not be affected by the repeal of this Act.
