Badulla District Parliamentarian Chamara Sampath said in Parliament yesterday that Rs 7 million was spent on the Clean Sri Lanka program launch ceremony alone without proper tendering procedures.
He showed that Rs. 200,000 was spent on the artist who sang the songs at the ceremony and Rs. 800,000 was spent on creating the songs. In addition, the MP revealed that Rs. 15,000 each was paid to the models invited to the ceremony, and Rs. 7 milliom was spent on the entire effort, including the website.
The MP, who said that he would table all the documents in his possession in this regard, said that this money had been spent bypassing the standard procurement system, and therefore writing the relevant cheque has become a problem for the accountant at the Presidential Secretariat.
He pointed out that the amount of 7 million rupees spent outside the standard system cannot be paid from the government account, and that it will have to be paid from the JVP office account located in Pelawatte.
He stated that all the information he had revealed was true and that if the government proved it to be false, he would resign from his position as a member of parliament.
