The case filed by the Attorney General against former State Minister Diana Gamage, alleging that she obtained a passport by submitting forged documents, was called up before Colombo High Court Judge Manjula Thilakaratne today.
The charge sheet in the case was read out, and the defendant Diana Gamage stated that she was innocent of the charges.
President’s Counsel Shanaka Ranasinghe, appearing for the defendant, raised preliminary objections and pointed out that the document on which this case is based was prepared in 2003. Pointing out that the case was filed in 2024, the President’s Counsel argued that since more than 20 years have passed, there is no legal basis to file a case regarding the relevant document.
The High Court Judge, who considered the facts presented, stated that this matter will be considered during the trial. The judge also ordered the case to be heard on March 5th.
