The government has decided to amend the constitution so that members of parliament can be elected at the constituency level. It is reported that yesterday Cabinet approved the drafting of the related constitutional amendment proposal.
Political sources say that bringing such a proposal with a year to go before the general election has caused a lot of controversy.
Accordingly, 160 of the 225 members of the Parliament are to be elected in the divisional system and the remaining 65 in the proportional system and at the national or provincial level.
