Cabinet Spokesperson Minister Nalinda Jayatissa says that the Cabinet has approved a 12.19% increase in bus fares effective from midnight today (23).
Accordingly, the minimum bus fare, which was Rs. 27, will increase to Rs. 30, while the final fare, which was Rs. 2,159, has increased by Rs. 263 to Rs. 2,422.
The Sri Lanka Transport Corporation and private bus operators are being informed to charge only the prescribed bus fare from passengers, and the National Transport Commission has also informed that legal action will be taken against those who charge bus fares more than the prescribed fare.
