The Navy says that the statue of Buddha build in Kachchathiv Island was removed. Recently, the members of Tamil National Alliance protested to remove this Buddha statue and it received wide publicity through social media.
However, Navy spokesperson Captain Gayan Wickramasuriya says that this Buddha statue was placed there for the worship of marines deployed protection of the Saint Anthony church on the island and is not a permanent construction.
