Bribery Commission to begin investigation into two bosses in Parliament

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption has instructed its Director General to initiate a formal investigation into the complaints filed against Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne and suspended Deputy Secretary General Chaminda Kularatne.

Accordingly, investigations against the suspended Deputy Secretary General and current Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne are scheduled to commence immediately.

Suspended Deputy Secretary General Chaminda Kularatne has filed eight corruption charges against the Speaker. These include improper receipt of fuel allowances, misuse of official vehicles, use of parliamentary media equipment and obstruction of information under the Right to Information Act.

A complaint has been filed against Chaminda Kularatne by a person named R. Kannan. It states that the process by which Kularatne was appointed Deputy Secretary General was corrupt and illegal.

As a preliminary step in the investigation, the Commission has decided to summon documents related to the relevant complaints from Parliament. After analyzing the documents, statements are to be recorded from the Speaker and Chaminda Kularatne.
