According to a complaint filed by a resident of Kalmunai, a judge of the Karthi Court has been arrested on charges of demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 2,300/- (two thousand three hundred rupees).
A Karthi Judge and his wife of the Karthi Court in Kalmunai have been arrested. The two were arrested by the investigating officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption at the Kadiyar Office in Maradamune on 18.08.2025.
The accused judge had received Rs. 300/- (three hundred rupees) per month in exchange for arranging for the complainant to receive the monthly maintenance amount provided by her divorced husband for her three children through the Karthi Court.
In addition, the accused judge has demanded a bribe of Rs. 2000 to increase the compensation currently being paid to the complainant by her husband by Rs. 18000.
Accordingly, on 18.08.2025, the judge and his wife have been arrested while demanding a bribe of Rs. 2,300/- at the Karthi Court as mentioned above. The two are scheduled to be produced before the Kalmunai Magistrate’s Court.
