Batalanda debate begins today.

The parliamentary debate on the Batalanda Commission report is scheduled to begin today (10).

The investigation reports on the establishment and maintenance of illegal detention centers and torture chambers in the Batalanda housing complex will be debated. It is scheduled to be held as a two-day debate.

It has been planned to allocate a day in May for the second day of the debate.

The Batalanda Commission report was first tabled in Parliament by former Minister Wijeyapala Mendis in 2001.

After the recent media discussion held by Al Jazeera with former President Ranil Wickremesinghe, local attention was again focused on Batalanda, and then the Leader of the House, Minister Bimal Ratnayake, tabled it on March 14.
