No decision yet to declare April 15 a holiday

Professor Chandana Abeyratne, Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government, said that a decision has not yet been taken to declare April 15 a public holiday. The Minister stated this in response to a question raised by Member of Parliament Ravi Karunanayake in Parliament today (10).

The Minister said that since Friday is also Good Friday, there are only about three days left to work during the relevant week.

Meanwhile, the Government Information Department says that a fake news story titled “April 15 to be declared a holiday” is circulating on social media using the letterhead of the Government Information Department.
