Bar Association’s concern over the President’s speech.

The Bar Association of Sri Lanka expresses its deep concern over the statement made by the President regarding a court decision at a recent May Day rally.

Issuing a special statement, the association says that the President stated at the May Day rally that, referring to a court decision scheduled to be delivered on May 25, 2026, the people would “applaud” the decision once it is delivered. The Bar Association of Sri Lanka states in its statement that the tone of the President’s statement appears to be an interference in the judicial process.

The Bar Association of Sri Lanka, which emphasizes the importance of protecting the independence of the judiciary, says that such statements may undermine the public’s confidence in the judiciary.

According to Article 111 C (1) of the Constitution, it is an offence to influence or give advice to any judge or officer exercising judicial power, the Bar Association states in the statement.
