A meeting between Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena and the Speaker of the Bangladesh Parliament, Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury, took place yesterday at Araliyagaha Mandiraya.
Referring to the past cooperation between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, the Speaker of Bangladesh emphasized the need to further expand relations between the two countries. She expressed her appreciation for the rapid progress Sri Lanka has made since the recent economic crisis and pointed out that Sri Lanka has great potential to expand its tourism industry, as she saw that the necessary infrastructure is already in place.
Congratulating Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh, the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka appreciated the fact that women hold several high positions in Bangladesh. During this meeting, the Prime Minister expressed confidence that, given Bangladesh’s expertise in the field of pharmaceuticals, it will provide cooperation for pharmaceutical production in Sri Lanka.
The Speaker mentioned that Bangladesh is very interested in using Trincomalee and other Sri Lankan ports, in addition to the Colombo port, for international trade.
