Political sources say that the discussions held between a group of independent members elected to the Colombo Municipal Council by the National People’s Power to establish the governing power in the Colombo Municipal Council have been successful. Accordingly, this discussion was held at the JVP party headquarters in Pelawatwa between President Anura Dissanayake and the independent MPs.
Following the discussion, the independent MPs told the media that they would unconditionally support the National People’s Power to establish Power of C.M.C. With this situation, the National People’s Power is close to establishing power in the Colombo Municipal Council and the MPs from the independent groups alone are not enough for that.
Nine independent MPs have been elected to the Colombo Municipal Council and the number of seats won by the National People’s Power is forty-eight. However, fifty-nine seats are required to establish power in the Colombo Municipal Council.
