Arrest warrant issued for Namal Rajapaksa who evaded court and went to Maldives.

The Hambantota Magistrate’s Court has issued an arrest warrant for Namal Rajapaksa, the National Organizer of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, MP. This is due to his failure to appear in a case being heard before the court today.

This order has been issued in relation to a case being heard in Hambantota regarding a protest held in Hambantota against the handover of the Hambantota Port to China in 2018.

However, Namal Rajapaksa is reported to have left for the Maldives to attend a meeting of lawyers. He has gone to the Maldives on the same plane that President Anura Dissanayake took to the Maldives.

However, there is a high possibility that he will be arrested at the Katunayake Airport on his return based on the warrants obtained from the court.
