35 people who were trapped due to the sudden rise in the water level of the Hirikatu Oya have been rescued.
Disaster Relief Services troops stationed at the Nanperiyal Camp of the Gemunu Watch successfully rescued the group this evening (01).
The Army says that a group of local tourists who were on a tour of the Nanperiyal area from the Kolonnawa area were involved in the incident.
The Army further said that the civilians were safely rescued before the water level of the Hirikatu Oya rose further due to the quick response of the Army troops.
