The National People’s Power (NPP) government, which talked about cutting expenses before the election, is spending more than the previous government after coming to power, says Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Kabir Hashim.
He said this during the vote on the accounts that will be announced for the first quarter of next year.
The NPP, which criticized the expenses incurred by former President Ranil Wickremesinghe on helicopter rides and luxury vehicles associated with his motorcade, says that a similar amount has been proposed for approval under the current President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
Responding, NPP MP Lakmali Hemachandra said that the inclusion of US$ 1300 million from the World Food Programme (WFP) in the expenditure head of the Presidential Secretariat was the reason for this similarity and that otherwise there would be no additional expenditure for the President.
