It is reported that five individuals were swept away by sea waves in two separate incidents along the Marawila coastline yesterday. Among them, a 21-year-old youth went missing after drowning, and a special search operation involving Sri Lanka Navy divers has been launched to locate him.
Additionally, local residents managed to rescue three women who were swept away by the sea in the same area yesterday afternoon.
Locals state that 21 people have lost their lives due to drowning at this specific location so far. They further allege that warning signs installed by the Marawila Police—advising people against bathing or entering the sea in this area—have been destroyed by visitors.
