Another Muslim group is being designated a terrorist organization.

A Muslim terrorist group formed in India in 2018, before the Easter Sunday attacks, has been newly added to the country’s list of banned organizations and individuals. The Extraordinary Gazette containing the revised list was issued this week.

The newly added organization, known as ‘Super Muslim’ or ‘Sahabi Tarika’, has reportedly been operating in Sri Lanka since 2019. According to the Extraordinary Gazette dated January 6, the organization, which has an address in Kalmunakudi, operates through a Telegram channel.

The gazette notification was issued by the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Retired Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyyakontha, in terms of Section 4(7) of the United Nations Regulations Act No. 1 of 2012.

Apart from the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and the National Thowheed Jamaath (NTJ), other groups that remain on the list include the Tamil Rehabilitation Organisation (TRO), the World Tamil Movement (WTM), the International Government of Tamil Eelam (TGTE), the Jamaat-e-Millat-e-Ibrahim (JMI), the Wilayat Az-Seylani (WAS) and the Sri Lanka Islamic Students Movement (SLISM).
