Although the international media and the US Secretary of Defense’s statements yesterday have confirmed that the Iranian ship was sunk by an American submarine, the Sri Lankan Defense Ministry’s statement that no such attack took place is problematic, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said in Parliament today.
He stressed that the government should immediately issue an official statement regarding the incident. He also expressed his appreciation for the life-saving operation carried out by the Sri Lanka Navy.
He also stressed that another Iranian ship is anchored near the Colombo Port and the government should immediately state whether it is aware of it.
