It should be made mandatory to inform the local Police OIC when organizing Dansals and Pandals for the upcoming Poson Poya, and this action is being taken with the aim of minimizing accidents, said DIG W. P.J. Senadheera. He said this while participating in a media briefing held in Colombo.
“If you are doing something that is an exhibition for the public, you have been asked to provide the necessary guidelines in coordination with the OIC. How to park vehicles, etc. We are not saying not to give Dansals. Do it properly. The OICs must intervene for this Poson and organize Dansals properly.”
Meanwhile, DIG W. P.J. Senadheera emphasized.
“According to our statistics, the number of accidents is higher than the actual number. Sometimes, people drive carelessly and then leave the accident on the highway. The Inspector General of Police has instructed that every accident must be reported and a record of the accident must be kept. If an accident is not reported within 24 hours, it is an offense. It is the driver’s responsibility to report it. Otherwise, one is guilty of not reporting the accident.”
