Due to heavy rain, the spilling of all the automatic gates of Victoria Reservoir began this afternoon (27).
The spill gates of the reservoir, which has a maximum capacity of 721 million cubic meters, will release a capacity of 500 cubic meters of water per second into the lower Randenigala Reservoir, said Chief Engineer in charge of the dam, Wasantha Ehelapitiya.
Due to the opening of 08 spill gates of Polgolla Reservoir and the continuous rains falling in the Victoria catchment area, this spilling will take place in the next few hours and accordingly, the Randenigala Reservoir will be spilled in a few hours, said Chief Engineer in charge of Mahaweli Dams, D.M. Dharmadasa.
