When the project to build 500 MW renewable energy power plants in Mannar and Punarin was awarded to India’s Adani Company, the Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority spent Rs. 261.7 million on the initial development work of the projects, according to an audit report issued by the National Audit Office.
The Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority has requested the relevant project developer to pay this amount in a letter dated November 08, 2022. Later, the Sustainable Energy Authority has disclosed in the notes to the financial statements that the amount due from the project developer is Rs. 112.5 million.
The audit report also states that agreements regarding the reduction of that amount have not been submitted to the audit and reached with the relevant investor.
The audit also recommends that details of the agreements regarding the reduction of the value should be submitted to the audit without delay.
