That investigations are being carried out under the charge of robbery in the case of forceful seizure of vehicles by personnel led by leasing companies when loan installment payments are delayed.
Acting Police Media Spokesperson Senior Superintendent of Police Ruwan Gunasekara said that the leasing companies should first inform the Police O.I.C of the concerned area when taking over unpaid vehicles, and then take over the vehicle with the police officers provided by the O.I.C of the said police.
He further said that those who try to acquire vehicles against these instructions will be prosecuted under the charge of robbery.
The Acting Police Media Spokesman added that the police officers are provided to protect the peace if there is any breach of peace in the process.
