A warning about crocodiles in the vicinity of Colombo city

The Department of Wildlife warns people to be careful while using rivers, lakes and canals in Colombo city.

Director General of Wildlife Conservation Department Chandana Suriyabandara said this to the media while commenting on a video of a crocodile in the Bolgoda river.

“The Bolgoda River is a habitat for crocodiles. In addition, a large number of crocodiles can live near the rivers, lakes and streams of Colombo. Accordingly, Diwannawa, Bolgoda Lake and South Kelani River have been identified as crocodile habitats for some time.” He said.

Therefore, the Director General of Wildlife said that the presence of a crocodile in the Bolgoda River is a common occurrence and it only comes to the fore when people see it, and asked the people to be very careful in the event of this incident.

He mentioned that there is no scientific method to remove crocodiles from their habitats, and crocodiles that are removed from their habitats return to those places.
