A theft of 2000 million dollars by India is revealed

It has been revealed in the Sectoral Monitoring Committee on Alleviating the Economic Crisis that Indian fishermen harvest fish worth 2000 million dollars a year by engaging in illegal fishing activities within the waters belonging to Sri Lanka.

It was revealed here that the prohibited gear brought by the toller vessels by the Indian fishermen is causing great damage even to the seabed and it will not be restored for another hundred years.

Gamini Valeboda, Chairman of the Sectoral Monitoring Committee, said that it was revealed that in 30 years, the Nara Institute has not conducted an accurate survey of the seas in the northern and eastern areas.

Many officials including the Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries participated in the meeting of this committee.
