A Sri Lankan sailor is on board a ship hijacked by Somali pirates.

A Sri Lankan sailor is among the crew of a fuel tanker hijacked by pirates off the coast of Somalia, foreign media reports.

It is reported that there are 17 sailors on board the ship hijacked by Somali pirates, including a Sri Lankan sailor, and that the ship is anchored close to the Somali coast with all of them. The ship’s crew includes a Sri Lankan, 10 Pakistanis, four Indonesians, an Indian and a Myanmar national, foreign media reports.

The ship, which was transporting 18,500 barrels of fuel, was taken over by a group of gunmen last Wednesday night.

However, neither the Somali authorities nor the European naval force that oversees counter-piracy operations off the Somali coast have made an official statement on the matter.
