The United Nations Human Rights Committee has expressed its concern to the Government of Sri Lanka about reports of arbitrary arrests and detention of protestors, trade union representatives, Tamils and Muslims without basic legal protection.
The committee mentioned this in its latest session while revealing its findings on the six countries namely Egypt, Panama, Peru, Sri Lanka, Turkmenistan and Zambia.
The Committee condemned the widespread use of prolonged pre-trial detention, inconsistent bail provisions and inefficient access in Sri Lanka.
