Sri Lanka will never become a polite country if the future generation is not equipped with values, says Central Province Governor Professor S.B.S. Abayakoon.
He said that although it is difficult to shape the present generation of adults in a polite manner, the future generation can be shaped with values and politeness.
The Governor said this while participating as the chief guest at the Central Province inaugural program of the Attitude and Personality Development Program, jointly organized by the Presidential Secretariat and the Clean Sri Lanka Secretariat with the aim of enhancing the ethics of school children.
More than a hundred children representing schools in 05 zones of the Kandy Education Zone participated in the program held at St. Sylvester’s College, Kandy today (25) and leadership training programs will be held for them over a period of four days selected within a month.
Speaking at the inauguration, the Governor said that if a Sri Lankan citizen lives in another country for work, he lives in accordance with the laws and ethics of that country, but when he returns to Sri Lanka, he lives as he pleases, damaging the environment of the country.
He said that while protecting the environment, living in accordance with the law, respecting each other, etc. are not practiced, but in another country, the laws of that country are respected.
However, the Governor pointed out that the Clean Sri Lanka program aims to create a person who is virtuous and can live legally, and said that it is easier to train children to produce such a person. He further stated that some believe that this project only cleans the environment, but that it is not so, but rather creates a society in which the human mind can live and a transparent country is expected.
Central Province Chief Secretary Ajith Premawansa, Central Province Education Secretary Madhupani Piyasena, Clean Sri Lanka Provincial Coordinator Samantha Dassanayake, Kandy Regional Education Director Deepthika Priyadarshani, Kandy Shantha Sil Vidyalaya Principal Asela Ranasinghe, along with a group of principals, teaching staff, and children undergoing leadership training participated in this event.
